Jussi Björling
“When I’m about to train a new opera, I first listen to how Jussi Björling did it. His voice was unique and it’s his path that I want to follow. I would more than anything else wish that people compared me with Jussi Björling. It’s like so I’m striving to sing.” – Luciano Pavarotti
It’s been said the trombone is the most vocal of all instruments. I encourage every trombonist to listen to singers – a lot of them. But . . . if you are going to listen to only one singer, listen to Jussi – specifically, this CD. There are many. There is YouTube. This one is (IMHO) the best. Again, this one. (A little redundancy never hurt anyone.) It is out of print; you can find it used here or here. (Availability varies; check back if they’re out of stock. Also, it should cost ca. $5-15 shipped – sometimes the prices are absurd!)
Update: Apparently, these recordings can be found on various streaming platforms as “Jussy Bjorling [sic]: Opera Arias, [1951 – 1957]” – with this album art. They are mp3s, so you may enjoy the CD more.
